How the partnership with Atlas Imagistica works and what a high-quality teleradiology service really means
A partnership begins before the first imaging study is sent.
A functional teleradiology partnership is a system. Every component of that system matters for the final outcome, which is the imaging report delivered on time to the patient’s referring physician.
At Atlas Imagistica, our clinical workflow has been designed starting from the needs of the partner clinic and its patients. Everything we do must generate real benefits for both. In this article, we clearly explain how this workflow operates step by step, with real turnaround times and full transparency regarding what happens behind each report.
Atlas Imagistica Clinical Workflow

What the Atlas Imagistica partnership means for the patient

From the patient’s perspective, the ideal teleradiology experience is invisible. The patient arrives, is scanned, leaves, and receives results quickly. This is the standard we aim for.
What changes for the patient when their clinic collaborates with Atlas Imagistica:
- Faster reports, with the possibility of urgent delivery (within a few hours), or within a maximum of 2 days for routine investigations and up to 3 days for oncological/cardiological cases
- Access to radiologists with appropriate subspecialization depending on the type of investigation
- Possibility of maintaining reporting continuity by the same radiologist during imaging follow-up — a factor that can increase diagnostic accuracy through detailed knowledge of the patient’s medical history
What the Atlas Imagistica partnership means for the clinic
From the partner clinic’s perspective, the value of a teleradiology service is measured across three dimensions: ease of integration into the existing workflow, reliability and speed of reports, and transparency of the provider’s performance.
Technical integration with Atlas Imagistica does not require major changes in the clinic’s workflow. The DICOM NOD Gateway is installed with minimal cost and connects existing equipment to our platform. Sending a study becomes a one-click action. No investment in new hardware is required, and any reconfigurations are minimal or native to the existing RIS/PACS system.
Beyond technical integration, partner clinics benefit from a teleradiology portal providing direct access to reports and images, customized management reports, and a complete audit trail for every interpreted study.
Internal Workflow: from image arrival to study allocation
After patient scanning and confirmation of image reception in the Atlas Imagistica platform, our automated allocation system immediately analyzes multiple parameters and assigns the case to the most suitable radiologist in less than 2 minutes.

Allocation criteria are prioritized as follows:
- Subspecialization (the radiologist with the most relevant expertise for the study type and pathology)
- Availability (which radiologist is active at the time the study arrives)
- Continuity (if the patient has previous studies interpreted by a specific radiologist, that radiologist is prioritized for follow-up reports)
Urgent cases are prioritized and placed at the top of the worklist. Additionally, each radiologist’s worklist includes information about when the study was assigned and the remaining reporting time. This eliminates ambiguity and facilitates case prioritization.
Radiologist assignment is personalized based on the patient’s pathology and medical history.
Dedicated on-call line with permanently available radiologist
Atlas Imagistica also offers full outsourcing of radiology on-call services. During these shifts, a radiologist is permanently available, communicates directly with the radiology technician, and ensures smooth collaboration in situations requiring rapid decision-making.
The on-call radiologist is informed about the clinical context of each case and can guide the technician in real time when necessary. Imaging reporting is continuous throughout the shift, with strict adherence to turnaround time commitments for urgent cases (maximum 2 hours).
Reporting Turnaround Times: Clear Commitments
We are among the few teleradiology providers in Romania that explicitly publish reporting turnaround time commitments. Transparency toward partners is not an act of courage, but the minimum standard of a serious partnership.
Study Category
Reporting Time Commitment
Emergencies, including on-call cases (regardless of investigation type)
Maximum 2 hours from study transmission
Outpatient – Non-oncological cases
Maximum 48 hours
Outpatient – Oncological / cardiac / breast pathology cases
Maximum 72 hours (often comparative studies requiring time-consuming measurements)
The times above represent maximum commitments. In practice, many studies are reported on the same day they are received.
Oncological, breast, and cardiac cases have a longer reporting window because they often require comparison with prior studies and/or detailed reporting — not because they are treated with lower urgency.
Urgent studies are always reported within a maximum of 2 hours, with absolute priority in the active radiologist’s worklist.
Atlas Imagistica Teleradiology Workflow — Technical Details
For technical teams within partner clinics who want to understand the integration details, the process is structured as follows:
Technical Steps of the Atlas Imagistica Partnership:
- Installation of the DICOM NOD Gateway at the clinic, without the need for new hardware investments and with minimal or no costs for RIS/PACS software integration
- One-click transmission of the selected study from the clinic’s DICOM viewer
- Encrypted SSL/VPN transfer via TeleradiologyNET — DICOM and HL7 standards
- Integration of clinical information from the clinic’s RIS/PACS (HL7/FHIR or JSON)
- Interpretation by specialists using advanced CE IIa/IIb certified viewing workstations
- Signed PDF report automatically sent to the clinic’s PACS (DICOM Notification), optionally to RIS and via email
- Secure web access to images and reports for clinic and patient — teleradiology portal
- Receipt confirmation via DICOM Notification — full traceability
- Continuous support via HelpDesk: medical and technical, available by phone, chat, and audio/video
